Akhshtyrskaya cave is unique, beautiful and easily accessible. Find out what is interesting in it and how to get from Sochi, Adler or Krasnaya Polyana.

The Akhshtyrskaya cave is not as mysterious as the Balamku cave in Mexico, and not as majestic as the New Athos cave in Abkhazia. But it is unique - in it they found a camp of an ancient man with tools, household items, rock paintings and a bunch of animal bones. Before excavations in this cave, it was believed that Cro-Magnons did not live in the Caucasus, but the discovery of the Akhshtyrskaya cave refuted this.

The cave is also not deprived of beauty - there are two large halls in it, and in the very last one, interesting growths and influxes have formed on the ceiling and walls. The cave is quite small, and tourists do not spend more than 10-15 minutes in it.

When leaving the cave, pay attention to age plates of cultural layers, and when you walk back through the leaky rock, do not forget to carefully look at the walls - there iscave drawings.

And, of course, withobservation deck in front of the entrance to the cave there is a wonderful view of the gorge, the river and the "Skypark" bridge.

Helpful information

  • The entrance to the cave costs 200 rubles.
  • It's cool inside, take a jacket.
  • Do not touch the vaults and walls of the cave - they are clayey and wet.
  • The floor is clayey too, so tread carefully.
  • There is parking.

How to get to the Akhshtyrskaya cave

Unlike Vorontsovskaya cave, it is very easy to get to Akhshtyrskaya cave. It is located not far from Adler. It is best to come to the cave when you are driving to Krasnaya Polyana or returning from it. It is convenient to combine a visit to the cave with the "Skypark" and trout farm. A little further there is a terribly beautiful old Krasnaya Polyana road and the "Dragon's Mouth" waterfall.

To get to the cave, you need to drive through the village of Kazachiy Brod and follow the signs for Skypark. Then either leave the car in the parking lot near the "Sukhumskiy Dvor" cafe and walk downstairs, or drive to the very end - there is also a parking lot there. We did not go inside, because then it is very risky to go out onto the road. The coordinates of the first parking lot at the cafe: 43.525376, 39.990387.

If there is no car, take a guided tour to the Akhshtyr cave on the Tripster:
