Sad news: Airbnb, the largest private accommodation booking service, has stopped operating in Crimea due to US sanctions on the peninsula.

Airbnb, a global housing search service from individuals, has stopped working in Crimea. Recently, Airbnb, located in the American jurisdiction, sent letters to homeowners in Crimea notifying them of account deactivation and removal of ads in the region in connection with the economic sanctions imposed by the United States on the annexed peninsula.

Indeed, when trying to search for ads in Crimea, the system displays the message: "We couldn't find anything for your request.".

The Airbnb team also reports that as long as the sanctions are in effect, announcements for renting housing in Crimea will not be posted. "Obeying the law, all of the above actions will be taken immediately," the letter says. It is clarified that if at the time of the deletion of the account the owner has guests, they are allowed to complete the trip, but all subsequent bookings will be canceled and the money returned to the users.

Recall that during our trip to Crimea in the summer of 2014, we ourselves searched and booked accommodation in the cities and resorts of the peninsula on Airbnb - we consider this the most convenient and reliable option.

One way or another, we highly recommend that you register on Airbnb.ru in order to be able to easily and simply find and rent accommodation on your travels - the service offers tens of thousands of houses, apartments and rooms around the world.

Thus, the search for private housing in Crimea can now be done in three ways:

  • to book hotels and hostels on the TripAdvisor.ru service;
  • look for housing on sites dedicated to the private sector in Crimea;
  • the old fashioned way - on arrival to look for a house / hotel, since there are a lot of offers.
